In 2020, Arcweb was granted B Corp status. For us, the certification was less about a classification and more about meeting the values that a B Corp classification represents. When we talk about becoming a B Corp, we often get asked what it means and why we care. Here is an overview of our process of becoming a B Corp, why Arcweb went through the certification process, and why it matters to us.
A B Corp is a business that “meets the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.”
For Arcweb, achieving B Corp status through certification was aligned with our larger values of community and sustainability. We continually choose to integrate ourselves into the community in a way we feel benefits society at-large and our employees. And by volunteering our time and donating our resources, we’ve been able to positively impact our immediate community and those around us.
Although the foundation of the company was on innovation and growth through technology, Arcweb has also always made working towards the greater good part of who we are as a company, in both our community activities and our client work—for example, our work with health-focused companies to support a digital transformation. Within the healthcare industry, we were able to help Ctrl M Health make a true difference in the lives of those suffering from debilitating health conditions such as chronic headaches.
We focused on three main considerations that helped us make the decision to pursue a B Corp certification.
The three conditions included:
When we looked inward at our core mission, it was obvious that who we are and our mission aligned with the mission of B Corps. We strive to help our team members and partners reach their full potential through our commitment to high-quality service and supporting our talented teams. Our mission is to be the premier digital transformation partner for forward-looking companies and reimagine the status quo by delivering thoughtful solutions to solve technical, business, and social challenges. We care deeply about people, the work we do, and the positive impact we can make through our actions and our work. Our company mission was perfectly in line with the spirit of the B Corp certification.
For us, our values serve as our guardrails to keep us focused and grounded. As a team and a company, we worked together to outline our core values, which include:
While this may seem like a very high-level question, we considered the answer from a more granular level.
Our commitment to the community is unwavering and non-negotiable. We have a history of considering how our actions impact our community and evaluate the results and impact of our decisions, and we hold ourselves accountable to improving our community and ensuring that our contributions are valuable. We also maintain our internal commitment to DEI initiatives and ensure they are embedded in our culture and not an afterthought.
From a sustainability perspective, we are committed to working with our people and processes to limit our carbon footprint and negative impact on the environment. As we work alongside our city to expand its focus on greener practices, we will happily adopt and implement guidelines and suggestions focused on environmental improvements.
While it is always important to work with a company whose mission and values align with yours, it can be difficult to ensure that a company doesn’t just talk the talk, but also walks the walk. For Arcweb, achieving B Corp status demonstrates our commitment to our community that mirrors the commitment we make to our clients.
As a growing company working in the tech space, we are proud to ensure we always remain grounded in our values. Our B Corp certification is a constant reminder that how we act and what we give to our community underscores every decision we make and every project we complete.
